ExplorarWho said Nordic walking was for “the old folks" who walk with sticks ? Who said Nordic walking was a winter activity ?
Set your preconceived ideas aside and let's take things back a step !
Born in the late ‘90s in Finland, Nordic walking takes the form of dynamic walking with the aid of poles in the great outdoors, combining physical effort with the discovery of nature. This ultimate fitness activity perfectly combines base endurance exertion that is accessible to all with a full-body strength workout (85% of muscle groups are activated).
The idea is to exaggerate arm movement during walking, using the poles to propel the body forward and go faster, for longer.
In fact, many trail runners are taking up this pole-powered walking technique to improve their efficiency as they work uphill !
It is estimated there are between 500,000 and 1 million Nordic walkers in France and nearly 9 million across Europe.
If all this still doesn't have you convinced, head out to one of our Nordic walking spots (Stations Nordik Walk), and we’ll show you the ropes (poles). You might be surprised 😉
Launched in 2018, the Stations Nordik Walk network already features 15 dedicated locations that all offer tailored, marked routes, novice and advanced workshops as well as numerous amenities to welcome you all year round.
