La Vallée de l'Aa forme des coteaux crayeux bordés par le fleuve. Les pentes abruptes montrent des pelouses calcicoles parsemées de bois, constituées en une vaste Réserve Naturelle nationale, pour leur biodiversité : on peut y observer de nombreuses espèces protégées, d'orchidées et de papillons notamment.
