ExploreThis long version of the Mont St-Rigaud Tour adds a dozen kilometers to the route around the Mont St-Rigaud and features a pleasant descent to the Sornin valley. You will also follow the technical sections and the few rather steep hills that can be found at the beginning of route n°21.
The descent in front of the Mont St-Rigaud source is rather technical - watch out for stones! The descent in the Sornin valley is larger and has less gravel trail parts than the previously mentionned descent, but it crosses the stream several times. The way back up the massif is rather progressive.
The route has several shaded sections. Thus, it is pleasant itinerary to follow during summer. Nevertheless, the long version of the Mont St-Rigaud Tour offers beautiful views in areas where trees have been cut, or on top of Mont St-Rigaud observation tower, as the mount rises above the Rhône department with its 1 012 meter altitude.
Refuel with water from the Mont St-Rigaud source while you are close to it - according to legends, it has miraculous virtues!
While following the route, you will also reach the Viaduc du Châtelard, which is a 27 meter high monument rising above firs.
On your way back, stop by L’Epice’Crie for a break - this local product shop located at Col de Crie offers refreshing beverages and tasty snacks.
